October was an exciting month for the GivingPoint team!
On October 3rd we continued our GivingPoint Institute workshop series, hosting a Perfecting Your Pitch session with Carissa Turner, Director of Communications and Public Relations for Roswell, Inc. Pitching is one of the most important skills that GPI students will learn, and Carissa taught the students the key aspects, and then watched and provided feedback for everyone’s practice pitches.
At the end of the month, on October 24th, we hosted another GPI workshop, this time on Grant Writing. Amy Gates, our own Executive Director, hosted the event, which was a smaller group of students who were ready to move forward on the project plans. Each GPI student will have to submit a grant request to receive funding for their upcoming projects, so Amy walked them through what is typically required on a grant application and what they can expect from the GivingPoint Grant application.
We’ve also been working on some exciting behind the scenes stuff, including website updates for improving both the design of the website and the back-end functionality. We are still putting all of the pieces together, but we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.
Additionally, our newest team member, Jessica Wuensch, started in early October as our Marketing and Communications Manager. Jessica comes to us from Ohio, after graduating from Ohio University in 2016 with a dual degree in Visual Communication and Strategic Communication. If you see someone at our upcoming events lurking in the background with her phone and camera, that’s probably Jessica. Say hi and smile for the camera!
As November approaches, we are looking forward to learning about Networking Strategies at our next GivingPoint Institute session, participating in the #GivingTuesday fundraising campaign, and enjoying the beginning of the holiday season with friends and family!
