May was a month of wrapping up the old and preparing for the new! We had to say goodbye to our 2017-2018 students, but we stayed busy recruiting and meeting some of the students we will work with this summer and upcoming school year!

Sparks Awards Ceremony

On Monday, May 7th we gathered at Maggiano’s in Buckhead for dinner, reflection, and recognition of our amazing GPI students at our 2018 Sparks Awards Ceremony.

We ended the evening with a few special awards, which involved monetary investments from GivingPoint board members in the projects that our students have spent the year cultivating. Stay tuned for a blog (and video!) that talks more in-depth about the evening. Thank you to everyone who came to the event and who supported our GPI students all year long!

Graduation Service Cords

Each year we offer graduation service cords to outstanding seniors who have put time and energy into volunteering during their high school career. This year, we gave out 439 cords to the following schools: Jackson High School, North Atlanta, South Atlanta, Grady, Washington, Drew Charter, some were even mailed to schools in Alabama and Virginia. These top volunteers earned more than 500 hours!

Social Innovators Academy

As we are celebrated the outgoing class of students, we we’ve been also recruiting and planning for a new group of students! Our Social Innovators Academy (the new name for GPI) kicks off three weeks of summer programming on June 11th, with locations at Georgia State University, The Cottage School in Roswell, and at Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville.

We are very grateful for our sponsors for our upcoming programs: Herbert Legal Group and Constellations Community. Their funding will help provide lunches for our students every day for the week!

We had a meet-and-greet event on Thursday May 31st, to welcome students from all three summer cohorts. We all enjoyed bowling and conversation, and it got everyone excited to start our programming next week!

GivingPoint moves to Constellations

The month started off with a little bit of craziness as we moved office locations! We are now working at a new coworking space called Constellations, which focuses on businesses and nonprofits in the social good space. Come by and visit us sometime soon!





Social Innovators Academy Applications

We’ve spent the last few months in recruitment mode, and May was no different!

We are still accepting applications for our 2018-2019 school year Social Innovators Academy programs.

We are looking for students who are passionate about making their communities a better place to join us this fall for SIA! If this is you or someone you know, we’d love to have you in our program this fall! Apply by Friday June 15th!
