June was a busy, but great, month for GivingPoint!
We accomplished a lot in June, but most excitingly, we completed our first EVER series of summer Social Innovators Academy workshops!
The Westminster Schools
We kicked off the month at The Westminster Schools, working with a group of high school students who took Philanthropy 101 for their June term class. We took them through a visioning activity to brainstorm what they would like the world to look like in the next 10 years, and helped them come up with ways that they can use their skills and passions to achieve that.
Nyaboke attended the wrap up celebration at the end of the program. A unique aspect of the program is that each student, and the teachers who lead it, are provided with funds to donate to a cause of their choice at the end. We are very grateful for a donation that Meghan, one of the teachers, gave to GivingPoint! Thank you for having us be a part of this program, Westminster!
Social Innovators Academy
Starting June 11th, we were in full Social Innovators Academy mode! We hosted three workshops three weeks in a row.
June 11th – 15th: Georgia State University
Thank you to all of our presenters and supporters, including Constellations and Georgia State University, both the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute and the J. Mack Robinson College of Business. Read more here.
June 18th – 22nd: The Cottage School in Roswell
June 25th – 29th: Gwinnett Technical College
Ultimate Frisbee in Rural Brazil
Additionally, we were able to recognize the hard work of some GivingPoint alumni, Djourdan and Jasper, who have been fundraising for their project for the past year. They travel down to Brazil to host an Ultimate Frisbee camp for underprivileged youth, teaching them the importance of fitness, fun, and the spirit of the game. Great work, guys!
