If you’ve been following GivingPoint for a while, you’ve heard us talk about our GivingPoint Institute program, also known as GPI. GPI is our ten-month incubator program for high school students to create and grow a nonprofit opportunity or social impact project. The 2017-2018 school year was our fifth year hosting our Institute, and we are so proud of all of our alumni that are still representing GivingPoint Institute in all that they do!
Our programming options are in the process of expanding (yay!), and we found the need to differentiate them in some way. We have decided to shift and establish GivingPoint Institute as the “educational programming” arm of the organization, with the separate and distinct programs sitting underneath the umbrella of GPI.
With all that being said, we are very excited to announce the new name: GivingPoint’s Social Innovators Academy, also known as SIA!
This name change is exciting for several reasons, but most importantly, we feel that it better tells what we do and what the program is about. As one student said, “I really like this new title as it gives a good description of what we do here at GivingPoint. We are social entrepreneurs and innovators, and this new name fits us very well.” We workshopped a few options, but this is our favorite and we feel it strongly captures what we do with our students and is modern, catchy, and will get attention from parents, school staff, and students!
The program itself will remain the same, except for two major exciting updates: we are hosting more Academies this year than ever before!
During the summer we will be hosting a week-long accelerated Social Innovators Academy, covering all the same content as our school year program, but in an accelerated format. Students will meet from 10 am – 3 pm every day and will get to hear from a variety of speakers covering all of our normal topics such as networking, event planning, grant writing, and more!
- Our first Academy will be hosted at Georgia State University from June 11th – 15th, in collaboration with the Robinson College of Business.
- Our second Academy will be hosted at The Cottage School in Roswell from June 18th – 22nd.
- And during the school year we are excited to host two cohorts of students, located in North Fulton and in Atlanta. Our big goal this year is to be able to expand and meet students in locations that are more convenient for them, driving-wise.
